Bringing two charities together | Catch 22
The challenge
Rainer and Crime Concern were two of the UKs most important charities for young people. Crime Concern had been in operation for around 20 years whilst Rainer boasted over 200 years experience. In 2008 they decided to join forces to create a more efficient operation with a greater depth and breadth. To do this they needed a new brand and a new directional focus.
The thinking
The name ‘Catch22’ was born out of this insight. By using an example of a catch 22, someone can immediately describe the challenging circumstances faced by a young person, “I need a job to get experience. But without experience, how can I get a job?” Equipped with this mechanic and a bold identity, Catch22 were now able to go out and speak with commissioners about their aspirations as an organisation.
The outcome
Since the merger, Catch22 have been successful in maintaining all their existing tenders and have won several new contracts. For our work we won the Third Sector Excellence Award for best new charity brand at the 2009 ceremony.
