A huge thank you to Peter Kirby for taking time recently to talk at our Fig lunch.

It was one of those busy days in the studio. Some green screen filming was taking place in the 3rd space, some script writing happening over at the sofa area and a collection of oversized, cut-out shapes being prepared in the 1st space for a photoshoot happening next week.

With all this going on, we managed to down tools for Mr Kirby. 30 minutes with him is like inspirational rocket fuel that lasts for months. Peter talked about his career, starting with his time at the acclaimed advertising agency HHCL, through to recent times, living in Cornwall and being creative director of this year’s Cornwall Design Season. The festival is described as ‘maverick thinking, making and doing,’ and by happy coincidence, there’s no better way to describe Peter himself.

Highlights included his writing for the Welsh clothing brand Howies, defining the tone of voice for supermarket giant Tesco, collaborating with artists and designers like Paul Davis (a previous lunch speaker), Margaret Howell and Richard Long. Not forgetting a pop up hotel at the Eden Project to raise awareness for the charity ShelterBox, an international disaster relief charity that provides emergency shelter to people in places like Haiti and more recently Japan.

Throughout his work, Peter demonstrates a capacity to use creative thinking as a powerful tool to shift the way organisations think and behave. And, ultimately the way we do. Inspiring stuff.
