Over 300 films from over 60 countries - to say the London Film Festival is the UK’s largest celebration of the film industry is an understatement. Now in its 52nd year, it has become an iconic date in the global film festival calendar.
For this year’s event, the British Film Institute was looking for an advertising campaign that would raise awareness and generate excitement, encouraging people of all types to interact with and discover film for themselves.
Figtree were invited to a competitive pitch and after presenting a number of concepts, we were chosen to produce the campaign.
We showcased the impact of film on billboards in Leicester Square and London Underground posters through the words of iconic filmmakers, with quotations from the likes of David Lynch to Anthony Minghella. Visually, we wanted to capture a film-like quality, a style that gave the quotes a sense of life and fluidity. Motion became a defining concept and we experimented with light, colour, photography and film projection equipment.
The final result is a look that captures the very essence of cinema - the projection of an image. It’s a visual style that pays homage to the movement, magic and intrigue of the cinema.
