82ASK invented the mobile phone question and answer service. After securing their next round of funding, they came to Figtree because they needed to expand - quickly and on a limited budget.

After spending some time with their team, we saw they were doing lots of things well:

They had amazing technology that connected a global network of the cleverest helpful people to answer questions - only 2% make the grade, many of whom have PhDs. They went out of their way to deliver the most detailed answers possible and only charged for the ones people were happy with. They had the best information sources, these guys were far more than just ‘Google monkeys’. All for £1 per answer.

Despite this great offer, 82ASK weren’t growing quickly enough.

We found out why:

Their number, 82275 was forgettable. Their name was hard to pronounce. Their communications were overly rational and unfocused. They didn’t know who their customers were.

The answer came through a new brand positioning - The idea of “the best answers on the go” positioned them nicely against their immediate and indirect mobile web search competitors.

We analysed their customer data to identify the most lucrative customer segment to focus on, then found them a more memorable number - 66000, with a new name - Texperts.

The brainy people behind the service informed the creative direction when we went back to school to give Texperts an academic look, that reflected their intelligence and humanity.
